Tiling Guide

Waste Factor

Standard installation requires 10% waste. Diagonal patterns or complex layouts need 15-20%. Experienced installers may only need 5% for simple layouts.

Grout Calculation

Grout amount depends on tile size, grout line width, and tile thickness. Larger tiles with thin grout lines need less grout per square foot.

Adhesive Coverage

Thinset adhesive typically covers 95-115 sq ft per 50 lb bag depending on trowel size. Our calculator assumes 100 sq ft per bag.

Common Tile Sizes

Popular sizes: 12"x12" and 12"x24" (modern), 6"x6" (classic), 4"x4" (small spaces), 18"x18" (large format).
